Wes Montgomery is a name you should know. It’s probably the man that started everything when you’re talking about modern guitar playing. Here’s a (colorized) recording of a concert in Brussels in 1965.
The line up is great; Arthur Harper, bass ; Jimmy Lovelace, drums ; Harold Mabern, piano. In other words a dream team. Wes Montgomery was the main influence for many of the great guitar player that followed after him. His unique phrasing, his style, the way he worked with harmony… You can hear it all in many other great guitar players like Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, Herb Ellis and so many more.
So lay back, relax and let the music take you away…
